If you have just not been feeling like yourself, you may be suffering from stress. Stress is high among most people and can be a leading cause of illness and depression in people of all ages.

Signs of stress include headaches, difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep, diarrhea, indigestion, and excessive perspiration. These are only a few of the symptoms that may indicate you are suffering from stress. Sometimes people will laugh about being stressed out, but the experts warn that stress is no laughing matter.

Stressed out people are more likely to have accidents, get into fights, lose their jobs, have marital and domestic problems, abuse alcohol or drugs, and have suicidal thoughts. They may appear defensive, withdrawn, argumentative, or overly sensitive.

If you or someone you know exhibits any of these symptoms it is best to seek help right away. There are things you can do to alleviate stress that will help someone to feel a little better while you are determining a long range plan to lessen stress in their life.

Exercise and diet are the best ways to get rid of or lessen stress quickly. Just taking a walk for twenty minutes each day can make someone feel less anxious about a stressful situation. Avoiding sugar, dairy products, and alcohol is also important in a stressful environment.

You must look at the big picture if you are to reduce stress for the long term. If you are at a job that is too stressful, look into ways to change your work situation. Try to figure out what it is about your work that is stressful and make the changes as soon as you can. If your home life is stressing you out, sit down with your family and talk about what can be done to make your home a more peaceful place to be. Illness of a family member can also be highly stressful. Try to analyze how you can deal with this situation in a less stressful way.

Remember that stress is usually temporary and can be dealt with in an intelligent way. Do not be afraid to ask for help from friends, family members, and professionals. You will enjoy a longer, healthier life by removing any stressful conditions from your life as quickly as possible.
